โรงพยาบาลเลิดสิน ได้เริ่มมีการรักษาเกี่ยวกับกระดูกหักข้อเคลื่อน ตั้งแต่ นายแพทย์หม่อมหลวงเต่อ สนิทวงศ์ ผู้อำนวยการคนแรก ในระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2491-2494 และในปี พ.ศ. 2502 ได้มีการพัฒนาทางด้านออร์โธปิดิกส์ คือ สมัยนายแพทย์คง สุวรรณรัต เป็นผู้อำนวยการโรงพยาบาล โดยทางโรงพยาบาลได้รับการสนับสนุนจากองค์การยูนิเซฟ และองค์การอนามัยโลก ได้ตั้งโรงงานกายอุปกรณ์หน่วยประดิษฐ์แขน ขาเทียม ตลอดจนได้แบ่งงานของแผนกออร์โธปิดิกส์และอุบัติเหตุ แยกจากศัลยกรรมทั่วไป
